Reflective stickers with custom printing
Reflective stickers – durable signage for outdoor use.
Reflective stickers are a solution designed to mark objects, vehicles, machinery, and infrastructure components that need to be clearly visible even after dark. Their distinctive property is their ability to reflect light back toward it’s source. As a result, when illuminated by car headlights or another light source, the sticker becomes much more visible than a standard sticker made of ordinary self-adhesive film.
At SUPRAPRINT, we produce custom-printed reflective stickers designed for outdoor use. Depending on our needs, we use two types of professional ORAFOL ORALITE® films: ORALITE® 5400 Commercial Grade and ORALITE® 5810 High Intensity Grade in color 010 White.
Both materials provide a reflective effect and are designed for outdoor use, but they differ in terms of, among other things, their reflectivity class, construction, and stated durability.
How does reflective films work?
The reflective film is designed to reflect light back in the direction from which it comes. It uses a special retroreflective layer for this purpose, which contains microscopic elements responsible for the characteristic reflective effect.
During the day, the outdoor sticker looks like a classic label with printed graphics. After dark, when a spotlight is shone on it, the surface of the film reflects the light and becomes noticeably brighter. It is precisely this effect that makes reflective stickers useful in situations where the visibility of markings after dark is essential.
However, it is worth noting one important feature of reflective film: its surface is not perfectly white. It has a distinctive, slightly gray or silvery-gray hue resulting from the composition of the reflective material. This has a direct impact on the appearance of the print.

Why do the colors on the reflective sticker differ from the CMYK design?
One of the most important things to know before ordering a custom-printed reflective sticker is that color reproduction is limited.
With standard white self-adhesive film, printing is done on a bright white background. In practice, the white of the background serves as a reference point for the other CMYK colors. Reflective film, on the other hand, has a slightly gray surface, which is characteristic of this material.
This means that the printed colors will not look exactly the same as they do on the monitor or in a preview displayed against a perfectly white background. This may be particularly noticeable with light, pastel, and highly saturated colors.
Bright colors may appear more muted, less intense, or slightly shifted in tone. This also applies to large areas filled with color. The greater the proportion of light-colored elements in the design, the more the character of the background may be visible in the final result.
Reflective film is therefore not the same as classic white film printed in CMYK. Its primary function is to provide reflective properties, and the print should be considered an element applied to a specialized, reflective substrate.
For this reason, reflective stickers work best in projects where the primary goal is to provide information, issue warnings, identify objects, or increase visibility—rather than achieving a perfect color match to a proof prepared on a white background.
ORALITE® 5400 – a durable reflective film for outdoor use.
ORALITE® 5400 Commercial Grade is a professional-grade self-adhesive reflective film designed for outdoor use. It is made of cast PVC and features a retroreflective design based on glass microspheres.
This material is intended, among other things, for the production of informational, warning, directional, and advertising signs. The manufacturer classifies ORALITE® 5400 as an RA1-class retroreflective material.
The film is resistant to weather conditions, corrosion, and solvents. The adhesive used is designed for permanent application to properly prepared surfaces.
The manufacturer states that the material has a lifespan of up to 4 years, taking into account the optional laminate, vertical outdoor exposure, and typical climatic conditions in Central Europe.
For printed labels, the actual durability also depends on the printing technology, the type of ink, the exposure conditions, and the method of application. The 4-year period stated by the manufacturer refers to the material’s properties under specific conditions and does not constitute an automatic guarantee of the durability of every print.
ORALITE® 5810-010 – higher light reflectance.
ORALITE® 5810 High Intensity Grade 010 White is a more advanced reflective film designed for applications where high light reflectivity is particularly important.
This material belongs to the RA2 class and provides a higher level of retroreflectivity than RA1-class films. As a result, it is used, among other things, in professional signage, where high visibility after dark is particularly important.
The 010 White version has a light-colored surface that is characteristic of reflective film; it is not the perfectly neutral white background used in standard printed films. When printing in color, you should therefore also take into account the limitations of CMYK color reproduction.
ORALITE® 5810 is characterized by high resistance to weathering, corrosion, and solvents. For unprinted material, the manufacturer specifies a lifespan of up to 10 years under specific conditions of vertical outdoor exposure.
However, in the case of a finished product with a print, it is important to remember that the durability of the entire sticker also depends on the printing technology used and the conditions under which it is used.
Reflectivity or perfect colors? It’s worth knowing the trade-off.
A printed reflective sticker combines two different functions. On the one hand, it serves as a medium for graphics, text, or markings; on the other, it retains the reflective properties of specialized film.
It is precisely the design responsible for the retroreflective effect that gives the material’s surface its characteristic, slightly grayish hue. Therefore, you should not expect the same color reproduction as when printing on standard, perfectly white film.
This is particularly important for projects that use bright colors, soft shades, pastel hues, or large areas of a single color. The colors may appear less saturated and visually darker than in a design created on a white background.
For projects where visual identity and accurate reproduction of the brand’s color scheme are paramount, it’s worth taking this factor into account as early as the graphic design phase.
At the same time, the film’s distinctive properties are not a drawback of the material. The grayish surface is a result of its construction and reflective properties. When choosing a reflective sticker, we are primarily looking for increased visibility after dark, not color reproduction identical to that on standard white film.
Reflective stickers with custom designs.
The ability to customize the print design means that reflective film can be used for much more than just standard markings.
The sticker can feature a company logo, identification number, company name, warning information, symbols, vehicle markings, or any custom graphics.
Self-adhesive films can be applied to cars, trailers, machinery, containers, equipment, fences, posts, gates, and other properly prepared outdoor surfaces.
In the case of vehicles and machinery, the ability to link the identification of a specific unit with improved visibility after dark may be particularly important.
Durability of reflective stickers.
The durability of a sticker depends on many factors. The most important factors include the type of film used, how the surface is prepared, the quality of the application, exposure to UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, humidity, cleaning methods, and the intensity of use.
ORALITE® 5400 has a manufacturer-declared durability of up to 4 years, while ORALITE® 5810 has a durability of up to 10 years for unprinted material under specified exposure conditions.
However, these values should not be considered a guarantee of how long the print will retain its original appearance. In the case of a printed product, the print itself also affects its durability. Intense sun exposure, frequent washing, abrasion, or use in particularly harsh environments can shorten the period during which the sticker retains its original appearance.
Proper surface preparation before application is also very important. The surface should be properly cleaned, degreased, and dry. Proper surface preparation directly affects the adhesive’s bond strength and the durability of the entire marking.
Where are reflective stickers best suited?
Reflective stickers can be used anywhere where signage needs to be more visible after dark. They are suitable, among other things, for marking vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment, containers, infrastructure components, and other outdoor objects.
They can serve a warning, informational, identification, or advertising purpose. For businesses, they also allow you to use your own graphics and corporate color scheme, although it’s important to keep in mind the limitations imposed by the distinctive shade of the reflective film.
If the sticker is to be used as part of official road signage or other signage regulated by law, you should check the requirements for the specific application before placing an order. The mere fact that a material is reflective does not automatically mean that it meets all the requirements for a given type of marking.
ORALITE® 5400 or ORALITE® 5810-010?
Both materials are designed for outdoor use, but they offer different levels of reflectivity and durability.
ORALITE® 5400 is a versatile RA1-grade reflective film that is well-suited for standard signage, informational stickers, warning stickers, and advertising stickers intended for outdoor use.
ORALITE® 5810-010 belongs to the higher RA2 class and is the right choice when light reflectance and enhanced material properties are particularly important. Its lifespan, as stated by the manufacturer, is also significantly longer.
In both cases, however, it is important to keep in mind a characteristic property of reflective film: a colored print will not appear exactly the same as it would on standard white self-adhesive film. The slightly gray background affects the final appearance of the colors and is a natural characteristic of this type of material.
Order reflective stickers with your own design.
Custom-printed reflective stickers allow you to create personalized signage for outdoor use that is visible both during the day and after dark.
At SUPRAPRINT, we produce stickers on ORALITE® 5400 and ORALITE® 5810-010. You can provide your own artwork, logo, text, or design, and we’ll prepare it for printing on the reflective film of your choice.
Before placing an order, keep in mind that the unique properties of reflective film can affect color reproduction. If the design includes specific corporate colors or light, pastel shades, you should take into account the possibility that they may change after printing on the distinctive, slightly gray background.
If visibility after dark, durability, and resistance to outdoor conditions are your top priorities, reflective film is the right choice. However, if a very accurate reproduction of CMYK colors is essential, it’s a good idea to consult with us about the design and the expected result before placing your order.
